A team that changes its intensity in the UCL
Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2 at the Parc des Princes in the Champions League group stage, with goals from Désiré Doué (38'), Lucas Hernández (72'), Vitinha (81'), and Fabián Ruiz (86'). After this victory, Manu Petit, a consultant, commented on the capacity of Luis Enrique’s group to raise its level at the start of European matches.
"It looks like a militarized formation": the image used by Manu Petit
Manu Petit judged that Parisian media present themselves differently when playing in the Champions League: for him, entering European competition triggers synchronization and collective rigidity that evoke an organized and compact formation. He highlighted the speed with which the players readjust and mobilize, and he described this collective reactivation as fairly rare even in his eyes, given what he experienced as a player.
Solidity and re-mobilization after the criticisms
The consultant also pointed to the cohesion and reaction of the group in the face of difficulties and the early-season criticisms. The recent performances in the UCL — three wins from three group-stage matches, including the October 20, 2026 win — illustrate, in his view, an ability to refocus and produce the offensive and defensive efficiency needed in European matches.
