Paris Saint-Germain has recently been linked with Marc Pubill to reinforce its back line, especially if Illya Zabarnyi were to leave the club. The profile of the Spanish defender — capable of playing in central defense and on the right side — would match the needs identified in Paris, where the absence of a natural, reliable backup for Achraf Hakimi is seen as a weakness.
PSG interest in Pubill
Marc Pubill, 23, is valued for his imposing stature and predominantly operates on the right side of Atlético Madrid's defensive unit. His physical profile and versatility have been put forward as assets that could fit the requirements of the Paris project.
Madrid extension progress
However, Atlético Madrid seems determined to keep its player. Contract extension talks have been launched and are reportedly in an advanced stage, with a principle agreement discussed to extend the deal until 2031 — the current contract runs until June 2030. These elements reduce the likelihood of an immediate transfer to the French capital.

Alternative targets considered
This development in the Pubill dossier pushes PSG to consider other avenues to strengthen its defensive sector. Among the alternatives mentioned is a versatile defender from FC Barcelona, for whom Paris would prioritize recruitment on the 2027 horizon, ready to offer a substantial package to close the deal.
Outlook for PSG defence
In summary, while Marc Pubill's profile fits Paris's expectations, the progress of talks on a Madrid extension greatly complicates any short-term transfer attempt. The capital club appears to be turning to other solutions to bolster its defense in the coming seasons.
